Project Likely To Be Completed Before Lok Sabha Elections As Most Issues Related To Land Acquisition Resolved.
The 109-km long Ahmedabad-Dholera expressway, that will make commuting between Ahmedabad, Dholera SIR and Bhavnagar easier, is likely to be completed before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
The Ahmedabad-Dholera expressway, the pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was kicked off in the last quarter of 2021 and was slated to be completed in January 2024 but got delayed due to heavy rainfall in 2023.
Now, the pace of construction work has picked up and authorities are looking at completing the project before the August 2024 deadline. The Project-1 of the expressway — from Sanathal to Sindhrej — is expected to be completed by March 2024.
NHAI sources said that about 10 permissions, required to construct the structure, have been granted by both the state and central government and the work has gathered pace.
“At some places about 70% of the work has been completed. Issues pertaining to land acquisitions have also been resolved,” the NHAI source said. “Upon completion, the top speed on the expressway would be 120 km per hour,” said a source.
The first one is from Sanathal on SP Ring Road to Sindhrej in Dholka Taluka, the second is from Sindhrej to Vejalka, the third from Vejalka to Valinda in Dhandhuka and the fourth project is from Dholejra SIR to Adhelai in Bhavnagar.
The Dholera expressway with two toll plazas will have two refreshment spots. While the first one is about 35 km from Ahmedabad and the next is about 35 km further. “One could reach Dholera via Lothal in about 45 mins. The expressway will also connect to Dholera-Bhavnagar Highway and hence travelling time to Bhavnagar will be reduced to 1.45 hrs from about 3 hours. The distance to Bhavnagar, via roadways, which currently is about 169 km, will be reduced to 141 km,” the NHAI source said.
