The 109 km long greenfield section of the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is being developed with an estimated cost of Rs 4,200 crore. With the integration of a railway line into this expressway, it is likely that this project can witness an RRTS corridor connecting Ahmedabad with Bhavnagar via Dholera in future.
Ahmedabad: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday inspected the progress of Package-1 of the under-construction Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway in Gujarat. The 109 km long greenfield section of the expressway is being developed as India’s first high speed integrated multi modal corridor.
After inspecting the construction site, Gadkari said that the government was aiming to finish the expressway’s construction by January 2024. He added that the expressway would be India’s first high speed integrated multi modal corridor with integration of both expressway and railway.
The corridor is being developed with an estimated cost of Rs 4,200 crore. With the integration of rail line into this expressway, it is likely that this project can witness an RRTS corridor connecting Ahmedabad with Bhavnagar via Dholera in future.
The Ahmedabad – Dholera Expressway will bring down the travel time between the two cities to about one hour from the present two and half hours. Besides, it will also provide direct connectivity to the Dholera airport.
The expressway is planned with a width of 120 metres, out of which 90 metres is dedicated to the expressway, and the remaining 30 metres will be left for a railway corridor to come up in the future.
As the corridor connects Sarkhej via Dholera International Airport at Navagam and Sardar Patel Ring Road near Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), it will give a much-needed boost to the industrial activities in Ahmedabad and Dholera.
What is Dholera Special Investment Region?
The Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) is a greenfield industrial planned city that will come up on Gujarat’s Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) stretch.
The DSIR will be the country’s biggest greenfield smart city with an area of 920 square km. In June 2022, the Centre approved the development of Phase-I of the new greenfield airport at Dholera at an estimated cost of Rs 1,305 crore.
