India will soon have its first smart and futuristic city in Gujarat! The proposed Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) will be bigger than Singapore in size with world-class facilities, says an FE report. DSIR was notified under the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone policy. There are seven nodes which will be developed under Phase-I of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). DSIR is one of the first and the biggest of these nodes. The environmental clearance for the project was given in 2014.
Here are mind-boggling facts about the Dholera city
Dholera is a proposed greenfield industrial city. The planned city is located barely 100 km away from Ahmedabad. Dholera city will span across 920 sq km and encompasses 22 villages. The city will be bigger than the city of Ahmedabad. Dholera is strategically located between the three prominent industrial cities of Gujarat- Ahmedabad, Broda, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
Dholera will be connected to Gujarat capital through a 6-lane expressway. There are plans to develop a metro rail network for seamless connectivity. The greenfield industrial city will also have an international airport. The construction work for the airport has already started. Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL) is building the airport.
Dholera, when it comes up, will have its own self-sustaining eco-system. The city’s economic growth will be driven by industrialisation, utility, logistics infrastructure and social infrastructure including education, healthcare and other public amenities.
Job opportunities: Dholera will be a world-class destination and is expected to be fully developed by 2030. The city will not only provide thrust to the country’s industrial output but will also create more than 8 lakh jobs.
